Manhattan Island Butterfly Swim

Welcome to the NYC Butterfly Swim website of Dr. Julie “Madfish” Bradshaw MBE. These pages are devoted to Julie’s  feat of swimming 28.5 miles around Manhattan Island using the hardest swimming stroke, THE BUTTERFLY.

Dr. Bradshaw currently holds 20 world records for long distance and marathon swimming, one of those being her English Channel butterfly solo swim in 2002, which earned her a place in the Guinness Book of World Records

On July 16th 2011, ‘Madfish’ entered the waters of the Hudson River to attempt to become the first person to circumnavigate the 28.5 mile course using the traditional butterfly stroke. She finished the swim in a time of 9 hours and 28 minutes. This time was recorded by the NYC finish judge when she touched the buoy and of course by the NYC official who went on the boat during Julie’s swim.Click here to see official finish of NYC Swim using traditional and proper butterfly.

Thank you for visiting this site and enjoy.

Best wishes

Julie
